Clear Measure Inc. has spent two years developing its software company in Austin. But when it was time to create a subsidiary, DevOps Unlimited, to provide operations and maintenance of its systems, it ventured outside of the state capitol and into Addison.

Mark Stavrou, managing partner and COO, said the reasoning behind the decision could be broken down into three main arguments:

The company’s access to a larger pool of talent
Access to a larger ecosystem of potential partners
A larger pool of mature and growing companies investing long-term in custom software and DevOps services.
While Dallas-Fort Worth has often been stereotyped as a corporate hub and Austin as the tech hub of Texas, Stavrou said that’s not necessarily the case.

“The perception is that there is more talent in Austin,” he said, “but the reality is there are a lot of talented people in Dallas that are very attractive recruiting candidates.”

It also helps that companies are starting to free up capital investments to put towards custom software solutions, and many of them are in Dallas, Stavrou added.

The company, which employs 24 people, has four employees set up in Addison and expects to continue to grow the subsidiary.

“That particular function of our business it is the largest single investment, other than our core business, that we’re making,” he said, adding that it represents about a third of the company. “That business represents long-term reoccurring revenue.

“It’s a priority investment.”

The new subsidiary is led by its president, Paul Drew. It is expected to help the company generate more predictive revenue.

The town of Addison has experienced a lot of movement in the technology industry lately. Bottle Rocket recently announced that it  was doubling its space there, and The Dallas Entrepreneur Center chose to partner with the town to  create the Addison TreeHouse, a similar startup support system as the one in Dallas
