EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT

We hire good people and provide tools and training to turn them into great employees.  Each department provides training for advancement in the organization and for enriching current jobs.  In addition, after a six month probationary period, employees are eligible for our tuition reimbursement program for college credit classes taken at accredited colleges or universities.

WORK/LIFE BALANCE

Wellness program - Provides education and fun activities to promote healthy living for employees and their families. Employees also get the benefit of using the state of the art Addison Athletic Club.

Employee Assistance Program provides confidential consultations, information and referrals to employees and family members experiencing personal difficulties, concerns, or searching for trustred information.

 

BENEFITS

Health and Dental Insurance: 100% of insurance premiums for employees and 50% of the additional premiums for covered dependents; coverage begins on date of hire.

Life Insurance: Policy valued at two times annual salary, up to a maximum of $200,000 at no cost to employee; Supplemental Life and Dependent Life Insurance available at group rates paid by payroll deduction; or additional life insurance policy valued at one times annual salary provided by Texas Municipal Retirement System.

Disability Insurance: Short-term and long-term disability benefits at no cost to employee. Short-term disability benefit: 70% of regular salary; 30-day waiting period. Long-term disability benefit: 60% of regular salary; must meet eligibility.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): For employees and family members; reference material, confidential counseling and referrals.

Athletic Club Membership: Membership in the Addison Athletic Club for a one-time $10 membership fee.

 

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): Employees contribute 7% of gross income, tax deferred. Upon retirement, the Town matches contributions and interest earned at a rate of two to one, the maximum allowable under the plan. Retirees can choose from several distribution options for retirement benefits. Retirement benefits are vested after 5 years of employment.

Eligible to Retire: Employees are eligible from Addison with 20 years of service at any age, or with 5 years of service at age 60.

Deferred Compensation: In addition to mandatory TMRS retirement system, the Town of Addison offers an optional 457 plan through ICMA. After initial 6 month trial period, employee contributions are matched by the Town at a 2/3 rate, up to a maximum of 4% of base salary (and subject to current legislative maximum contributions). Matching funds are vested immediately.

Social Security: Addison does not participate in Social Security.

Medicare: Employees' contribution of 1.45% of salary is matched by Addison.

 

PAID-TIME OFF

Holidays: Employee's birthday + 8 holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and day before or after Christmas. If required to work on a holiday, employee has option of accruing the holiday to take at another time or receiving additional holiday pay.

Vacation: Accrued from date of hire; may be taken after 6 months of employment, with approval from supervisor. Employees earn 2 weeks of vacation after one year of service; accruals increase to a maximum of 4 weeks after 10 years of service. Unused vacation can be carried over from year to year up to a maximum of two year's. The Town has provisions to buy back unused accrued vacation.

Sick Leave: Accrued from date of hire at an average rate of 8 hours per month (12 hours for Firefighter-paramedics) for an annual maximum of 12 days per year. Sick leave may be carried over from year to year up to a maximum of 120 days. The Town has provisions to buy back unused accrued sick leave.

Other Paid Leave: jury duty, bereavement leave, military leave; subject to established policies.

 

OTHER BENEFITS

Longevity Pay: $4 per month of employment after first 12 months. Payments are issued annually.

Continuing Education: After six month trial period, employees are eligible for reimbursement of tuition and mandatory fees paid for accredited classes in which a "C" or above is earned. Grade bonuses are provided. Job-related training also provided.

Flexible Spending Plan: Employees may contribute to a reimbursement account for qualified medical and child care expenses on a pre-tax basis through payroll deductions.

DART Pass: Free monthly pass if using bus for transportation to and from work on a regular basis.

Direct Deposit: Automatic deposit to any bank requested.

Employee Meritorious Lunch:  Employee of the Quarter Program: free quarterly lunch catered by one of the many Addison restaurants. New employees are introduced, long term employees are recognized, and Employee of the Quarter is awarded.
