Public safety has always been a priority for the Town of Addison, and having updated, credible information is always important to enhance the response efforts of our public safety personnel for our local businesses.  In 2012 the Town enacted Ordinance number #011-073 for this purpose.

This ordinance requires every business that occupies commercial space within the Addison boundaries to register with the Town and update their information annually.  Home based businesses are precluded from participating, but can voluntarily register to have their business listed in the Town’s online business directory.  Local businesses are encouraged to pay close attention to their mail as renewal notices will be arriving in the last week of December in anticipation of the start of the new year.  Businesses are required to register with the town and make any necessary updates in January.

“Addison is a little different than other cities,” says Orlando Campos, Director of Economic Development & Tourism.  “Even though we are only 3.4 square miles, our city is divided into three different zip codes.  Many of our businesses that are in the 75254 Dallas zip code south of Belt Line Road along the North Dallas Tollway and Quorum sometimes do not realize that they are within the Addison jurisdiction, and as a result, quite a bit of the information we are normally able to obtain through traditional methods gets bundled into Dallas.  Having every business register with the Town helps us ensure that we optimize our city services especially public safety to respond effectively to businesses in this zip code.”

With over 10 Million square feet of office space in the community, the Business Registration provides police and fire with updated contact information for businesses in our office buildings, a count of the number of employees that may be working within these buildings and information on any hazardous materials that may be kept in storage.  Since the initiation of the business registration, contact information collected has been helpful in communicating with businesses in certain sectors of the community to advise them of any infrastructure work that may be impacting their business.  This proactive approach has helped local businesses make necessary plans ahead of any inconveniences.

Since the implementation of the Business Registration, the Town has worked to bring additional value to local businesses.  Enhancing the communication has been one, but also providing an online directory has been another to promote local businesses and encourage business to business activity.  In 2015, the Town will take another step to drive traffic to local businesses and encourage business to business customers through the launch of a new Addison App which will include a smart phone micro-site for all local businesses registered with the Town.
